Tips For Writing Inmates This information provided hopefully to instruct, encourage, and inspire those that would have a desire to follow the Lord's leading in prison ministry, so that every inmate IPPC Prison Ministries will have the opportunity to get to know Jesus Christ and be saved, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit working through lay persons dedicated to provide their selves as an instrument of God. It is impossible to reach all those that would have a knowledge of salvation due to the fact that we do not have volunteers working in every prison. Second, not every inmate will come to our programs but would like to have some Spiritual correspondence. To teach the do and don'ts of ministering behind prison walls through the written word. Inmates are begging for someone who cares and is willing to take the time and effort to correspond in Christian love. We hope that through this training and examples you will be effective in this ministry. Anything not covered in this manual should be directed to the IPPC Prison Ministries *We recommend you use a post office box or church address
*Check prison regulations before sending any gifts or even stamps *we strongly recommend that gifts of money not be a part of the pen-pal relationship., The purpose of being Christian pen pal to a prisoner is to provide a Christian friendship with whom to exchange letters and words of encouragement.,Fellowship ,spiritual Growth , A good response is:

Check prison regulations before sending any thing" *Use caution and common sense if you send photos of yourself *Be aware of con games (If unsure, ask us) *Write as a unit if married and writing to a member of the opposite gender *Be prepared for possible romantic overtures (keep letters Christ centered) *Be a good listener and give hope through God's word *Do not be too preachy in your letters; build a relationship first *Allow your pen pal to discuss their past on their own initiative *Encourage and pray for your pen pal daily *Write regularly, at least twice a month if possible *It is not advisable to write to more than one prisoner in the same prison.
*Remember a lot of prisoners are limited financially and may not always be able to reply straight away.
*Be patient and if you are concerned, just write again or perhaps send a card to check and see if your friend is OK
